Gerald Gowan, Professional Trainer/Mentor, with a Masters degree in Movement psychotherapy from Hahnemann Medical College, BA in Sport Psychology, and Physical Education and Certified Movement Analyst with extensive training in movment observation and exercise physiology has over 20 years experience motivating and helping children find their gifts in athletics. Gerald is a former member of the 1980 Canadian National Track and Field Team and founder of Kinex Academy, Kinex Track & Field Club and the Good SPORTpose biomechanics training technique. 

Coach Gerald's approach to youth personal sports coaching and mentoring was developed through years of working with special needs children and creating adaptive physicial education programs for school districts in Canada, Britain and the US. He has also coached all major sports in local recreational youth sports leagues and at the high school level.

A.C.E - Athletics Creating Esteem Personal Training

Gerald Gowan's,  A.C.E - Athletics Creating Esteem personal training program provides a safe environment for the undeveloped athlete to explore and develop their own athletic identity based in what they feel they are good at doing. Coach Gerald offers personal coaching and mentoring to children that can help children uncover and develop the "athlete within".

These student athlete development sessions are open to all levels of ability from ages 5 through 12 years old. A.C.E personal mentoring and coaching sessions are designed to enhance and promote positive self-esteem through athletics based on a developmental Sport Psychology that is rooted in the child's innate love for physical activity and a natural desire to feel challenged in their body-movement life.

This type of personal mentoring and coaching is designed to uncover and stimulate a lifelong love for learning through athletics and sports, by teaching kids how their love to play can be used to focus and develop mastery in their favorite sport or athletic endeavor. We help athletes of all ages and skill levels to maximize their athletic talents by developing power, movement coordination, agility, speed, flexibility and a winning sport psychology.

The goal of this type of personal mentoring and coaching is to help children uncover and develop an awareness of how their personal movement profile can best be expressed and and mastered through a sport that fits their "Sport Movement Profile"  

Our Programs

Youth Training
Boys & girls ages 8 – 11; 60-minute sessions.
Pre-teen kids are the perfect age to learn new skills! Our coaches will teach them all the proper mechanics of running – linear, multidirectional, change of direction – plus begin to build their strength in an age-appropriate manner (plyometrics, body-weight activities).
Available all summer Mondays through Saturdays at selected times.

Developmental Training
Boys & girls ages 12 – 18; 90-minute sessions.
Conducted in groups of similar age and ability, participants learn the proper mechanics of movement, develop core strength, stability and balance, and build strength. The result is increased speed and strength and significant improvements in explosiveness! Surprise your friends, coaches and teammates when they see you again next fall!

GOLF PROGRAM

Our integrated approach to golf specific training incorporates an Active Dynamic Warm-up to increase functional musculo-skeletal mobility with specific protocols designed to increase rotational power. In conjunction with the National Alliance for Youth Sports
Prepare your children ages 3-5 for the world of organized sports!  Work together with your child to learn all the basic skills...throwing, catching, kicking, and batting.  Our professional coaches will focus on developing eye-hand coordination, balance, basic motor skills and sport-specific skills, movement, and social development patterns.

What is the guarantee?
Velocity Sports Performance guarantees that all student athletes who participate in the GOLD Developmental Program will increase their speed, power and agility. If the athlete is not completely satisfied with the performance results, he or she will receive eight (8) additional training sessions at no further charge.

Who qualifies for the Velocity Sports Performance Guarantee?
Any athlete enrolled in the GOLD Developmental Program.

What are the qualifications of the Velocity Sports Performance Guarantee?

The athlete must enroll in the 24 session GOLD Developmental Program

The athlete may have only two (2) excused absences. Make-up sessions are permitted during the 24-session program

The Sports Performance Director will conduct a pre- and post-program evaluation to establish baselines and measurement points

The Performance Coach will meet regularly with the parent to summarize each student's progress

Features of the Velocity Sports Performance Student Athlete Training Program

Evaluations
All enrolled student athletes ages 12 and up will receive a pre-and post-program evaluation at no additional cost.

Conferences

Each student athlete will receive a conference at the beginning of the program with the Sports Performance Director to review the pre-program evaluation results.

The Performance Coach will meet with or call the parents twice per month to update them on the student athlete's progress.

Each student athlete will receive an ending conference with the Sports Performance Director to summarize the post-program evaluation results.


Guarantee
Velocity Sports Performance guarantees improvement in speed, power and agility for all student athletes enrolled in the GOLD (24 session) training program.

The student athlete will be placed in the age appropriate program (with skill level taken into consideration as well). 2 to 3 training sessions per week is recommended for all training programs.

Youth Program (ages 11 and under)
60 minutes per session

Developmental I Program (ages 12 - 14)
90 minutes per session

Developmental II Program (ages 15 - 18)
90 minutes per session

Steps for Completing the Program

Call Velocity Sports Performance today to set up an appointment. The parent and student athlete will meet with the Sports Performance Director or Business Director to tour our facility, discuss training packages and determine the needs and goals of the athlete.



Sign up for a training program and fill out a medical history and goals sheet.



Schedule pre-program evaluation session (no more than 5 days prior to your first training session) and schedule training sessions.



Complete training sessions.



Schedule a post-program evaluation session (within 5 days of last training session).



The Sports Performance Director or Business Director will meet with the student athlete's parent to discuss the results of the training program and of the post-program evaluation.

The Pre- and Post-Program Evaluation

The Velocity Sports Performance pre- and post-program evaluations will measure each athlete in the following tests:

Vertical Jump

Standing Broad Jump

Pro Agility (5-10-5) Test

10, 20 and 40 Yard Dash

Three Cone Drill


The pre-program evaluation must be scheduled no more than 5 days prior to the first training session and the post-program evaluation must be scheduled within 5 days after the last training session.

A coach can make all the difference in the world when it comes to athletic performance. A coach should push you to your limits but not beyond them. A coach should lead by example, use positive reinforcement and identify each athletes individual learning style.

Helping the athlete to understand what he or she is doing and how it will contribute to his/her success. Once the athletes grasp these concepts, they are able to coach themselves while at practice and remember the things that are important to their performance.
